Mendy:
Rabbi Mendy Schanowitz was born and raised as a Chabad emissary in Las Vegas, NV. His parents, Rabbi Yisroel and Shternie Schanowitz are directors of Chabad of Summerlin/Desert Shores. From a young age, Mendy was instilled with a love for Torah and Mitzvot and imbued with a sense of mission and purpose to share his passion for Judaism with fellow Jews.
Mendy started his education at Desert Torah Academy in Las Vegas and then studied at Yeshivot in Chicago, Manchester, New York, and Israel. Upon completing his studies, he was ordained at the Central Chabad Yeshiva in Brooklyn.
During his years as a rabbinic student, as well as earlier in his youth, Rabbi Mendy gained first-hand experience leading Holiday programs, directing events, and teaching Torah classes. Rabbi Mendy has been active not only at Chabad of Summerlin but volunteered at many Chabad centers in the neighboring states of California, Arizona, and New Mexico, and internationally in the UK, Gothenburg (Sweden), and Mariupol (Ukraine).
Chaya:
Mrs. Chaya Schanowitz was raised as a Chabad emissary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her parents, Rabbi Yitzchok and Pessy Gurevitz are directors of Chabad of Northwest Philadelphia. Chaya attended a local Chabad elementary school and then traveled to Brooklyn, New York to attend Beis Rivkah High School. After graduating, Chaya spent a year doing advanced studies in Safed, Israel. She graduated a year later with a teacher’s degree from Beth Rivka Division of Higher Learning.
Growing up in Philadelphia offered Chaya the opportunity to be involved in many Chabad programs and activities. Chaya has extensive experience with youth and adult programming. She has taught Hebrew School in Philadelphia and directed Camp Gan Israel for many summers.
In August of 2023, Rabbi Mendy and Chaya, together with their daughter Hinda, moved to Centennial Hills, bringing their hopes and aspirations for enhancing Jewish life. Rabbi Mendy & Chaya are passionate about Judaism and excited to work with YOU bringing the love and joy of Judaism to your hearts and family.
